{"id":1063,"date":"2020-05-01T17:59:35","date_gmt":"2020-05-01T17:59:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.pharmacy.umaryland.edu\/insidesop\/?p=1063"},"modified":"2020-05-01T17:59:35","modified_gmt":"2020-05-01T17:59:35","slug":"helping-hands-the-patients-program-stays-connected-to-the-community","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.pharmacy.umaryland.edu\/insidesop\/2020\/05\/01\/helping-hands-the-patients-program-stays-connected-to-the-community\/","title":{"rendered":"Helping Hands: The PATIENTS Program Stays Connected to the Community"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Written By<\/strong>: Genevieve\u00a0Polk, MPH, Assistant Director of Dissemination and Implementation for The PATIENTS Program<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong><em>Editor\u2019s Note:\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><em>This post is part of a series of\u00a0<\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.pharmacy.umaryland.edu\/insidesop\/tag\/helping-hands\/\"><em><strong>Helping Hands<\/strong><\/em><\/a><em>\u00a0stories authored by School of Pharmacy faculty, staff, students, trainees, and alumni who stepped up to assist their family and friends, colleagues, and communities during the COVID-19 pandemic.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Housed within the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.pharmacy.umaryland.edu\/about\/depts\/phsr\/\"><strong>Department of Pharmaceutical Health Services Research (PHSR)<\/strong><\/a> at the School of Pharmacy, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pharmacy.umaryland.edu\/programs\/the-patients-program\/\"><strong>The PATIENTS Program<\/strong><\/a> serves as a bridge between\u00a0the\u00a0communities that encompass West Baltimore and researchers at\u00a0the\u00a0University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB).\u00a0The\u00a0PATIENTS Program envisions a world in which patients and stakeholders are heard, inspired, and empowered to co-develop patient-centered outcomes research.<\/p>\n<p>To engage community members in\u00a0the\u00a0research process,\u00a0The\u00a0PATIENTS Program maintains a dedicated three-person engagement team. Due to\u00a0the COVID-19 restrictions on public gatherings, as well as social distancing guidelines,\u00a0the\u00a0engagement team has not been able to go out into\u00a0the\u00a0community like\u00a0they regularly did in the past.
