Editor\u2019s Note:\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>This post is part of a series of\u00a0<\/em>Helping Hands<\/strong><\/em><\/a>\u00a0stories authored by School of Pharmacy faculty, staff, students, trainees, and alumni who stepped up to assist their family and friends, colleagues, and communities during the COVID-19 pandemic.<\/em><\/p>\n

Last week, Dean Eddington announced\u00a0the\u00a0establishment of\u00a0the\u00a0University of Maryland School of Pharmacy Student Emergency Fund, which supports our students who have unexpected emergency expenses, particularly\u00a0during\u00a0the\u00a0COVID-19\u00a0crisis, such as illness,\u00a0the\u00a0death of a family member, medical emergency, or\u00a0the\u00a0need for emergency housing, food or transportation.<\/p>\n

To encourage donations to this new fund,\u00a0the\u00a0trustees of\u00a0the\u00a0University of Maryland Baltimore Foundation, (UMBF) Inc., provided\u00a0the\u00a0School with $15,000 in matching funds. Due to\u00a0the\u00a0generous support of more than 80 alumni, faculty, staff, and friends of\u00a0the\u00a0School we have raised more than $10,000 in support of\u00a0this fund. With matching funds, that brings our total to more than $20,000 to support students in need. Thank you to all who have donated!<\/p>\n

We still have $4,000 in matching funds remaining. Any individual gift of $25 or more will be matched dollar for dollar, up to a maximum gift of $500.
